Let me put this on the table right now: the beginning is boring. For some reason, both in the main anime series, 1st OVA and one the films I watched, the story starts in a boring environment full of weird characters. But this weirdness in them makes them special - makes them human.
The urge for a dumb, reckless and truly "maddo scientistu",
Okarin, to create a time machine led him to meet someone who was actually able to do such thing: Makise Kurisu. Kuriso, Christina or whatever Okabe calls her is one of my favorite characters of all time. she's pretty, smart, kind of a tsundere template, and above all, she's a scientist. After creating a time machine, things start to get weird(er). From non-coherent memories, to life-or-death pursuits, Okabe will do any and everything ge can to make sure those he loves are kept save - even if it implies creating a totally different universe.
If you do watch this series, be aware that it'll hurt. Dangers are targeted towards both the coolest (Kurisu) and the cutest and purest characters of all time (Mayushi). Almost all characters will make you develop some feeling for them. And most importantly, in all possible universes, they will be themselves. And that will truly determine the outcome.
This was a very special series to me, and definitely one of my favorites of all time. I absolutely recommend anyone who is into time-travelling and multi-universe stuff to watch this!
